The complexity in nature is overwhelming when looking at a subject weather it be a landscape, seascape, portrait, or whatever it may be but the beauty and joy of painting is taking that vast amount of complexity and reducing it to a few simple brush strokes. That is what is meant by capturing the essence of the subject and it's a true joy when this can be accomplished.

It is always a wonder for me to admire a good painting by an accomplished painter like yourself, and thinking about the skill which you use to capture so much of nature with a few choice strokes applied to a vast blank space. To replicate nature entirely by hand! It's a huge achievement by itself - I truly hope you will never cease to create art, so that others will have a chance to experience the feeling of awe that I have when I admire your paintings.
some of your work reminds me of a fine local artist who passed away as a yound man decades ago, I think his name was Doug Foltz--recall him wearing a hugh fur coat one winter. He was fun--God bless his soul. If you were lucky, you knew him.
Doug Foltz was a good friend of mine, and I am glad that his steel sculpting honors him at Eckerd College. He was special and is still missed. He certainly helped change my life.
Doug Foltz was a very good friend of mine as well. He was responsible in getting me away from being a full time sign painter and becoming a full time artist. He was an inspiration for me and still is.
