This is a small 8x10"portrait of Sarah I did from a photograph. I was using my computer monitor to view the photo, zooming in to get the detail but I was really having trouble getting it right. Then I printed out a picture of her face the exact size as I was painting it. I placed it next to the painting and it was much easier to get the proportions correct.
In other words, having the photo the same size as my painting kept me from having to interpret and recalculate in my head the proportions and sizes on my painting. I could visually reproduce it much easier.

I am from Scotland and have a blog site - love your work - its great - i too love masonite - we call it mdf - can I ask you - why do you like it - is it the slickness you get - what prmer do you use - do you prime it on the back to prevent warping - any medium wiht your paint ? I have been really struggling with oils recently - cant wiat long enough for my darks to dry before carrrying on with the painting - dont think I ever will - I amy go back to acrylics and finish off with some oil galzes to bring up the depth of colour here and there - anyway you are brilliant - are you selling a lot of your work - hope so - you are an inspiration - as is your partner.
